Tollywood’s Clearance Sale: They Are Not Waiting Anymore

Published by

From a time, actually the makers of big films got huge offers from OTT apps including Amazon, Hotstar, Netflix and Zee5. But then, big producers of Telugu cinema have actually rejected to give away their movies to streaming apps, saying that their products are carved for theatre experience of the audiences but not to watch on mobile phones and smart TVs.

Using this to their advantage, makers of small movies have started selling their unreleased films to OTT apps. While Amrutharamam has turned up on Zee5, it looks like the floodgates are opened now.

Rana Daggubati’s production venture with Kshanam director Ravikanth Perepu, Krishna and his Leela is said to be heading for a release on Netflix.

JD Chakravarthy’s latest direction venture MMOF is also getting ready for a digital release. Many other films are also following the suit, we hear.

It is almost like a Clearance Sale by Tollywood’s small budgeted filmmakers as they feel that theatres will not be opened for sure in the next couple of months, and even if they are opened, people might not be daring to rush to theatres until a vaccine for Covid-19 is discovered. For that reason, they are not waiting anymore and now middle-men are said to have started poaching more films for OTTs.
