Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, who was hailed for helping guest workers reach their homes by hiring buses and other needy with jobs and funding surgeries during the nation-wide lockdown, is accused of illegally converting a residential building at Juhu area in Mumbai, into a hotel. The Birhanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials filed a complaint to this effect with the police.
Last year, the actor had offered the same six-storey building for quarantine facilities for medical professionals when lockdown was announced to check the spread of Covid-19.
The police said they would probe into the issue and take necessary action. However, Sood is yet to respond to the allegations.
Meanwhile, Ram Kadam, a BJP leader, reacted to the complaint. He alleged that the BMC and the Maharashtra government were targeting Sonu Sood after Kangana Ranaut. He said Sood’s generosity and humanitarian work during the pandemic did not go down well with the Shiv Sena government.
He tweeted: “Another vendetta politics by Shiv Sena? This complaint against social worker and actor Sonu Sood seems politically motivated. We saw how this Maharashtra government attacked and targeted Kangana Ranaut. Shiv Sena was always against Sonu Sood’s humanitarian work.”
“How many people’s voices are you going to suppress?” he tweeted in Hindi.
Fortyseven-year-old Sood was appreciated and he also received several awards for the kindness shown by him during the pandemic. He even launched a toll-free helpline number to help those needing assistance.
On September 9, the BMC demolished parts of Kangana Ranaut’s bungalow in the Pali Hill, Bandra, for alleged “unauthorised” construction.
