Director Prashanth Varma’s third film Zombie Reddy starring Teja Sajja is all set for grand release tomorrow. Although the makers got staggering offers for direct to digital release, they waited to release the movie in theatres only.
Prashanth Varma who is not against OTT says Zombie Reddy is the film to be watched with friends and family in theatres. “Right after releasing pre-look poster, we got big deals for OTT rights. We haven’t yet closed OTT business or else you would have seen name of the OTT player on the posters. It will definitely have caused damage to the theatrical business. So, we are waiting for the film to release on theatres. Then, we will think about selling OTT rights,” says he.
People will usually compare films of these genres with Hollywood films. However, Prashanth Varma clarifies saying Zombie Reddy will be loved by Hollywood filmmakers as well, as except for Zombie, everything will be fresh with Telugu nativity.
The director informs he initiall wanted to make Zombie Reddy as a thriller in the lines of Awe. “I had the basic story of zombie coming to Rayalaseema 8 years ago. The name of the virus was not coronavirus initially. Then we named it coronavirus, after the outbreak in China.”
About the controversy over the title, Prashanth says, “I got threat calls when we announced the title. But, this film will bring glory to Rayalaseema Reddy’s. In fact, Zombie Reddy sounds powerful than Zombie Varma or else we would have named the film Zombie Varma.”
Prashanth Varma informed that he has plans of making sequels to his Awe and Zombie Reddy.
