Earlier in the week director Venky Kudumula of ‘Chalo’ and ‘Bheeshma’ fame lodged a cybercrime complaint that he was cheated by a fraudster. In details, in the name of applying for a film festival, a person has approached Venky and to enroll in the fest, he asked the director to pay a certain amount. Having paid the amount, director Venky cross checked and realised that he was deceived.
However, nowhere Venky came out and spoke about it. A few minutes back Venky took to his Twitter handle and issued a statement. Venky revealed the name of the fraudster who acquired his contact number with the mutual friend.
“I had received a call from Naveen who got my number from a mutual friend. He loved my movie Bheeshma and wanted me to apply for a National Award because it deals with Organic Farming. As there is nothing wrong in applying for it, I went ahead. I got in touch with my mutual friend who told me he has known Naveen for two years. I went ahead and asked my associate director to submit the required documents. I paid a sum of Rs 63,600 as the application fee apparent. However, there was some mix-up and the person came back to me saying that we would get a refund and asked us to make a transfer of money again,” wrote Venky and added that he sensed a doubt from here. When details were dug, Venky found out that it was fraud.
When Venky had a word with his friends regarding this fraud, many of them suggested to ignore and not to complain to police which would be a waste of time. But Venky went ahead to lodged a complaint.
Concluding the ‘Bheeshma’ director said that “Poga Thraguta.. Madhyam Sevinchute Kaadhu Apramathamga Lekapovadam Kuda Hanikarame.” Seems like Venky has learned a lesson from this case.
