Some things are quickly shaping up in Bollywood as other day they have announced that director Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming film Gulaabo Sitabo featuring Amitabh Bachhan and Ayushman Khurrana is hitting Amazon Prime directly skipping a theatrical release has shocked all. With INOX reacting on this, without naming the film, and indirectly giving warning to producers that there will be repercussions, Bollywood’s Producers Guild has responded now.
Explaining that if multiplexes and other theatre owners need films for their existence, first of all, producers need to exist, Producers Guild has given a strong counter. They stated that lots of producers are suffering from losses already and only if they recover their investment they could make movies for theatrical releases in the future. Producers Guild made a strong exception to the unnecessary warnings being given by the multiplex owners.
But then, they have explained that it will take time to open theatres and also the occupancy rate will be quite low even after opening due to Covid-19 fears. At the same time, Producers Guild stated that the overseas market of films will also come crashing and the plight of small budgeted movies is inexplainable. To decrease the load of backlogs, they say that some films need to go OTT directly such that they will save producers from mounting interests over loans as well.
With this clairty, it is now clear that many more big Bollywood movies will go OTT way while there are movies like Vidya Balan’s Shakuntala Devi and Akshay Kumar’s Laxmi Bomb are almost confirmed for the same.
