1996 released Tamil film ‘Indian’ is one of the finest movies made on corruption in the country. Kamal Haasan played a dual role in the film and Shankar directed the project. After 2 decades, Kamal officially confirmed the film’s sequel in 2017 during the grand finale of the Bigg Boss TV show. However, things did not go smooth ever since the announcement came up. From a change of production house to a huge mishap on the film’s sets, nothing about Indian 2 went right. Now, the film’s production house Lyca Productions initiated a legal battle against film’s director Shankar for not completing the film.
As per the reports from Kollywood, Lyca Productions has moved to Madras High Court to stop Shankar from moving on to other films, accusing him of not completing Indian 2. The production house allocated 230 Cr for the completion of the film where 180 Cr rupees have already been spent. Lyca Productions claimed that they are ready to deposit the remaining remunerations with the Court.
The film’s shoot began in early 2019 but hit a roadblock after an accident took place on the film’s sets in 2019 end. With the demise of a couple of crew members on the sets, the film unit halted the shoot. Differences of opinion erupted between the production house and Kamal Haasan, with regards to the accident. Both parties publicly accused one another but everyone thought that the film’s shoot is going to take off post-pandemic.
Cut to the present, Shankar announced his new movie with Ram Charan in the lead role. Dil Raju who was the initial producer of Indian 2 will be pooling the resources for this new project. Recently, the film’s leading lady Kajal Aggarwal also clarified that Indian 2 might not hit the floors. With pre-production of Shankar’s next progressing at a brisk pace, Lyca Productions decided to fight it out legally. On the other hand, the film’s lead Kamal Haasan is also busy with his election campaign.
With regards to the same, the court notices have been sent to director Shankar. The director is yet to respond to the same.
