Second Wave Effect On Acharya, RRR & Pushpa Release?

Published by

The second wave of coronavirus has caught up in India badly and the cases are rising high with each passing day. Already, Maharashtra imposed a weekend lockdown and many other states are expected to follow the same. In many states, the 50% occupancy is brought back in the theatres. Will this twist in the corona tale affect the upcoming big and pan-India releases? is the big question in the film circles.

Especially, at a time when Tollywood is getting back to glory, the sudden hit back could cost a lot for our producers and distributors. Of late, many movies are opting for a pan-India release. Some of the upcoming pan-India releases include Marakkar, 83, Pushpa, KGF 2, Kurup, and RRR. All these films have confirmed their respective release dates.

Now, the lockdown is imposed in some of the states and we don’t know how many days will this trend continue in the country. If the 50 percent restriction rules are followed in the theatres for a long time, there are chances of these movies getting postponed. These are big-budget movies and need a wide release to get back the money spent. There are heavy stakes involved and thus, the makers will not take any risk.

Already, Bollywood stepped back with regards to the same. With popular actors like Vicky Kaushal, Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan, Alia Bhatt, and others testing positive for the Coronavirus in the second wave, they are looking at keeping new releases on hold.

When it comes to Tollywood, the current scenario will certainly affect the business of upcoming Telugu big releases like Vakeel Saab, Acharya, and Pushpa as well. All these movies are supposed to have a big release in the other states as well. But the current lockdown and restrictions may affect those films’ collections nominally. Vakeel Saab can’t escape the situation with the film releasing in a couple of days. With 50 percent occupancy in theatres, there’s no way that films like Pushpa, RRR, Acharya, and a few others making way to the big screens. If the films get postponed, it is another headache for the parties involved.

As of now, it is too uncertain to think of a concrete strategy but we have to wait a few more days to analyze the current situation.
