Nomadland makes it big in the 93rd Academy Awards by winning the Oscar in the Best Picture category. The Chloe Zhao directorial film also won two other Oscars in the categories of Best Actress and Best Director. While Zhao won the Best Director Award, Frances McDormand won the Best Actress laurel.
Zhao reminisced the famous lines from the movie, “all the people we met on the road,” while acknowledging the Best Picture Award. She said, “Thank you for teaching us the power of resilience and hope and reminding us what true kindness looks like.”
Meanwhile, McDormand requested everyone to watch their film on the biggest screen possible. She also added that every other Oscar nominee should be watched in a dark movie theatre. Nomadland is adapted from Jessica Bruder’s non-fiction book Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century. Meanwhile, Zhao created history becoming the first non-white woman and the second woman director to win the Oscar in the Best Direction category. She was also nominated in the categories of Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing, but couldn’t win them.
