8 Interesting Highlights of Oscars 2021

Published by

The 93rd Academy Awards happened a few hours back in Los Angeles. There was a lot of diversity in the nominations this time and there are some historic winning moments as well. Here are some of the highlights of this year’s Oscars:

1. Nomadland won the Best Picture, Best Direction, and Best Actress awards this time. This is the most awards won by any film in this edition. This is also the ceremony since the 78th Academy Awards where a film didn’t win more than four awards.

2. Nomadland’s Chloe Zhao became the second woman in history to get the Best Director Award. She is also the first non-white woman to achieve this feat.

3. Sir Anthony Hopkins won the Best Actor Award for the film The Father. At the age of 83, he became the oldest actor to be conferred with the Best Actor Academy Award. He won the award for The Silence of the Lambs in the past.

4. Interestingly, seven of the eight Best Film nominees have taken at least one Oscar home this year.

5. Thomas Vinterberg’s Another Round from Denmark won the Best International Film Award.

6. Christopher Nolan’s Tenet won the Best Visual Effects Award. The film disappointed everyone in all other aspects. The film failed to live up to the hype in theatres and at the awards.

7. Various films like Mank, Soul, Judas and the Black Messiah, The Father, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and Sound of Metal won two Oscars each.

8. Indian actor Irrfan Khan and costume designer Bhanu Athaiya, who passed away last year, were remembered in the Oscars Memoriam.
