Amazon Prime Video faced the heat from Tamilians after the platform dropped the trailer of the upcoming web series, The Family Man 2. Raj-DK duo directed the web series that received critical acclaim and applause from the audiences. The second season is due for a release for a long time and the makers finally launched the trailer with a release date. However, a section of Tamil community felt that the trailer is depicting them as terrorists and raised objections. Giving to this pressure, the platform has edited the trailer and released it today.
Right after the trailer launch yesterday, the Twitter is filled with comments from Tamilians that the series is projecting them as terrorists. Some commented that the series is trying to belittle the Tamilians’ struggle for their civil rights by labeling them terrorists and some abused Samantha for playing a terrorist in the film. Many assumed that Samantha is against her own people (Tamilians). The hashtag #FamilyMan2_against_Tamils started trending on Twitter and many demanded a ban on the series, at least in Tamilnadu.
Amazon Prime Video already went through a rough patch during Tandav controversy. The digital streaming platform is not in a mood for going through it once again. So, the officials at the platform edited the trailer and released a slightly different trailer from the one that was launched yesterday.
In the new trailer, the objectionable word, ‘Tamil rebels’ has been deleted. Instead they used, ‘the rebels’. However, not many noticed this change since no one from the makers side or the platform’s side officially released a statement that they do not intend to hurt the sentiments of any.
The Family Man series features Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role. Priyamani, Shreya Dhanwanthari, Sharad Kelkar and others play the lead roles. Samantha is making her debut in Bollywood space with this web series. The series will release on 4th June.
