Uday Mahesh Was Not Initially Auditioned For ‘Chellam Sir’

‘Chellam Sir’ is the most trending word on social media for the last few days. The word refers to the popular character from the recent super hit series The Family Man season 2. Chellam sir is a super spy who helps the show’s protagonist in tough situations. This iconic role has been played by Tamil director-turned-actor Uday Mahesh. In a recent interview, he opened up on how he came on board for this show.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Uday said that this popularity is unexpected. His character Vishwanathan in Tamil TV serial called Office gave him recognition among Tamil people but The Family Man now gave him nationwide popularity. Earlier, Uday also acted in a small role in John Abraham’s Madras Cafe.

Initially, Uday auditioned for the role of Dheepan in The Family Man. But he didn’t get that character. After a few months, he got a call from the team and was offered the role of Chellam Sir. As The Family Man season 1 was a huge hit, Uday wanted to act in season 2. Thus, he accepted it without any second thoughts.

Uday also said that he didn’t expect the role to become so popular. He says every film would be a hit if the filmmaker predicts what audiences like. But it is not possible. He says we can just try and believe in our work. The rest is up to the people.

Chellam means Darling in Tamil. The word became popular after Prakash Raj used it in the super hit film Ghilli. Uday said that it might be a codeword and not the real name of the spy in the show. Only show-runners Raj and DK can answer what is the original name of Chellam Sir.
