‘The Family Man’ season 2 opened to a lot of controversies before the release. The series’ trailer attracted a controversy where a section of the Tamil community raised objections over the depiction of Tamilians in the show. However, the show makers responded that the series never hurt the sentiments of Tamilians and people will understand that after watching the show. It’s been over 2 weeks since the show released but the negativity around the show has not subsided.
To make their voice heard against the Amazon Prime web series The Family Man 2, the members of the Eelam Tamil diaspora have urged the Tamil film industry to stop showing the victims of genocide in a bad light. Multiple Tamil Organizations held protests in front of the Amazon Prime Video office in London.
The Australian Tamil Congress (ATC), British Tamils Forum (BTF), Irish Tamils Forum (ITF), La Maison du Tamil Eelam (MTE), Norwegian Council of Eelam Tamils (NCET), National Council of Canadian Tamils (NCCT), Solidarity Group for Peace and Justice (SGPJ-South Africa) and the United States Tamil Action Group (USTAG) have collectively written a letter to multiple film associations in Tamilnadu.
Tamil Nadu Film Directors Association, Tamil Film Producers Council, and the South Indian Artistes’ Association received the letter but remained silent. The Eelam Tamil organizations have objected to the depiction of their community. They also made an objection to the depiction of Samantha’s character who even offers sex to satisfy her motive.
