Plagiarism disputes are quite common in the Tamil film industry. In the past, we have seen directors like AR Murugadoss and Shankar being accused of plagiarism. Now, Pandem Kodi fame Lingusamy joins the list. Another director Seeman filed plagiarism charges on Lingusamy’s upcoming film with Ram Pothineni.
According to the Kollywood media, Lingusamy wrote this story in 2013 and planned to make it with Suriya. At that time, Seeman filed similar charges on Lingusamy. He termed that the story is similar to his script for the movie titled ‘Pagalavan,’ which he planned to make with Vijay. Tamil Nadu Film Directors’ Association had resolved the matter amicably by stating that both directors had written similar ideas and ruled out the plagiarism charges.
Later, Lingusamy wrote a different story for Suriya and made it as Anjaan in 2014. On the flip side, Seeman couldn’t take Pagalavan on floors. Now, after all these years, Seeman charged the same complaint once again in South Indian Film Writers’ Association, when he came to know that Lingusamy is using the same script for Ram’s movie.
When the association demanded an explanation from Lingusamy, he said that the issue was already resolved in 2013 where he got a clean chit from the Directors’ association stating that he could direct the movie with this script in other languages except for Tamil. After examining his explanation, The South Indian Film Writers’ Association gave a clean-chit to Lingusamy and stated that there will not be any action taken on him.
The makers are hoping that they won’t receive plagiarism charges any further. This untitled project features Krithi Shetty as the female lead.
