Eid and Salman Khan go hand in hand. This year, the big Bhaijaan is ready with his new film Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan which is directed by Farhad Samji. Pooja Hegde has been cast as the female lead and Telugu star, Venkatesh plays the key role in the film.
Plot
Bhaijaan(Salman Khan) lives with his three younger brothers played by Jassie Gill, Siddharth Nigam, and Raghav Juyal. Bhai is in no mood to marry for the rest of his life and in comes Bhagya Lakshmi Gundamaneni (Pooja Hegde) as his tenant and changes Bhai’s life upside down. One day, Lakshmi gets into trouble due to Bhaijaan, and in comes her brother(Venkatesh) into the picture. Bhaijaan has to now deal with the goons, Lakshmi’s brother, and also settle his brothers who are in love. How will Bhaijaan manage all this is the basic story of Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
Performances
Salman Khan is a pro when it comes to roles like these. Even at this age he looks fit and dances well. He gives his fans what they expect and carries the film on his shoulders. Telugu star, Venkatesh gets a powerful part and is the mainstay of the film in the second half. In some of the scenes, Venkatesh dominated Salman Khan which happens quite rarely. Pooja Hegde gets a good role and she is beautiful in her South Indian look. She also shares good chemistry with Salman Khan. All the scenes between Venkatesh and Salman Khan are a treat to watch and both the stars do so well.
Technicalities
KBKJ is the remake of the Tamil hit Veeram. Farhad Samji’s writing is lazy and does not have strong emotions in the film. They are so many scenes that do not fit into the narrative. Looks like the script has been altered so much according to the mood of Salman Khan. But the music is okay as all the songs look good on screen. The editing could have been better but the visuals are grand. Those watching from the Telugu land will feel that they are watching a direct Telugu film itself. Dialogues are simple and those written for Bhai are good.
What’s Good
Salman Khan-Venkatesh scenes
What’s Bad
Comedy
Logicless scenes
Boring drama
Over-the-top scenes
Analysis
Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is filled with so many issues that it is difficult to mention all of them here. One of the biggest drawbacks of the film is the main villain Jagapathi Babu. The noted actor hams like never before and is made to look foolish in the film. Upon this, JB dubs in his own voice which is yet another letdown. Coming to the story, there is nothing new that has been showcased here. KBKJ is the same outdated story of four brothers and how they fight for the elder brother’s love.
There is a lack of freshness in the film and the blame should go to director Farhad Samji for showcasing the film in such poor taste. After a point, Venkatesh is highlighted so much that it looks silly. His character is not etched properly and more drama through his role would have made a lot of difference. The scenes in KBKJ do not have a proper flow and so many actors get involved in every scene that it looks like a circus.
Fans of Salman Khan come for a solid entry, songs, and body of Bhai, but this film does not provide all of those. The songs are ordinary, the way Bhai removes his shirt is rushed and whatever Bhai does, looks pale for some reason. The film has more songs than stories, only to annoy the viewer even more. The director makes Salman say many sentimental dialogues, including the word “Vande Mataram”, Why? You will not understand.
Also, the comedy is cringeworthy. Upon this, the action showcased by Salman Khan looks so over the top. In the past, even though Salman’s movies did not have a proper story, the songs, fights, and Bhai’s swag used to be solid and fans used to get satisfied. For some reason, all that is missing in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi KI Jaan makes this film boring even for hardcore fans of Salman Khan.
Bottom Line – Outdated Bhai Boring Jaan
