The very talented Naveen Polishetty joined hands with Anushka Shetty for the movie Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty. Naveen Polishetty is coming to theaters after a gap of two years since his blockbuster Jathi Ratnalu. Anushka Shetty’s comeback is after her Nishabdam three years back. The trailer of Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty looks promising and the characterizations raised curiosity among all. Naveen is acting as a standup comedian and Anushka will be appearing as a chef. Produced by UV Creations, the movie hit the screens today. Here is the review from one of the US premiere shows.
What Is It About?
Master Chef Anvitha Ravali Shetty (Anushka) moves back to India from UK with her chronically ill mother. After losing her mother, Anvitha realizes she needs a companion and family but doesn’t want to get into the marriage system. Sidhu Polishetty (Naveen Polishetty) is a software employee and a passionate standup comedian. Anvitha finds him interesting and Sidhu falls in love with her. Sidhu gets a shock of his life when Anvitha says what she is expecting from him. What happens next in their lives is all about Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty.
Performances
Playing a role of standup comedian is a tricky one. Not just any actor can do it, unless the actor is a happening and hilarious person as is. Polishetty is definitely the one and the role is ‘tailer-made’ like a dialogue in the movie says. Naveen Polishetty enthralls in every frame he appears in and in fact he pulls the audiences’ focus towards him. Naveen though he has to perform the emotional side, he did not put his funny side at bay and that’s living in the character.
Anushka Shetty came back to films after a big gap and she did good in the role of a persistant woman. The story itself mentions that it is a story of a young man and a elder woman. So that way, Anushka looked perfect for the role she did. Anushka’s performed well in the touching scenes in the climax as well.
Supporting actors Murli Sharma, Abhinav Gomatham, Happy Days Sonia got crucial roles and they all did very well. Some of the jokes by Murli Sharma are real good. Jayasudha, Harshavardhan, Nasser, Thulasi and others did what is needed.

Technicalities
The stories like Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty often derail due to faulty narrative and loose ends, but the director managed to keep it together with a tight narrative and good screenplay.
The production values are good. The songs are mostly montages. Catchy songs would have pushed the movie many levels up. The second half feels a bit lengthy and dragged towards the end, but the climax makes up to it.
The dialogues need a special mention. Apart from hilarious one-liners, the dialogues in the sentimental zone are also crisp and sensible.
Analysis
When routine love stories and senseless action movies are making it the new normal for the audience who are expecting fresh concepts, Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty caters one to them.
Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty is a modern-age love story that deals with a woman who wants to be a mother without getting married and a man who falls in love with her. The concept of sperm donation interlinked with the love story is a sensitive story to tell. But the director showed his excellence and clarity in conveying it right. There were many hilarious scenes in Anushka’s research and the interval scene is made very well.
The first half of the movie is entertaining, and the major credit goes to Naveen Polishetty. The man not just carried the promotions, but also did the most enthralling parts of the movie with ease. Though a few of his on-stage jokes could not bring laughs, almost all of his spontaneous jokes and timing one-liners worked as they should. The first half hour is a little slow but Naveen brings it on track with his screen presence and he owns the show really.
A major duration of the second half runs on the emotional side and it feels a dragged at times. Surprisingly Naveen Polishetty pulls it off neatly. Many a time there was a risk of crossing the line with comedy in the second half due to the fertility element, but the director keeps it clean and saves it from becoming a dirty comedy.
Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty is not an easy story to narrate. The dialogues were apt and supported the emotions to hit the right note. Murli Sharma and Abhinav Gomatham’s roles lift it up when needed and in fact, they made it a bit easier for the lead roles to bring on what’s needed. The last half hour is one of the most anticipated climaxes, yet the characters were successful in touching the emotions.
Overall, Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty is an unconventional mature love story. Naveen Polishetty uplifted the whole movie with his finest performance. His comedy timing, spontaneity throughout the movie and the subtle performance in the emotional scenes are the charm of Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty.
Bottomline: Hilarious Entertainer with Emotions
Rating: 3/5
