Rules Ranjann Review

Published by

Kiran Abbavaram teams up with director Rathinam Krishna after Oxygen. Success is elusive to both. The duo needs a hit to bounce back. They rope in Neha Shetty who is hot under the success of DJ Tillu and Bedurulanka. Will she turn into the lucky mascot? Will Kiran and Krishna combine to deliver a decent film? Let’s check out our verdict.

What is it about?

Mano Ranjann (Kiran Abbavaram) from Tirupati gets a software job in Mumbai. He is a very dedicated and disciplined person who is committed to work. He gets the nickname ‘Rules Ranjann’ in office. He meets his college crush Sana (Neha Shetty) in Mumbai metro and things take a drastic change. However, Sana returns to her village without sharing her contact. Mano Ranjann comes to his hometown to win Sana’s love. What are the odds that he comes across in this process is the film is about.

Performances

Kiran Abbavaram gets a very stereotyped role of a villager getting into a city. He couldn’t do justice to the role. It is a badly-scripted role and Kiran sticks to his usual style. He has been choosing the wrong scripts thus affecting his career. Neha Shetty is eye-candy in the film. She lightens up the screen and she is a blessing in disguise. Meher Chahal is also a nice choice who is good and also acts well. Unfortunately, Meher gets an insignificant role. Both the heroines are good, but are left with no choice. Vennela Kishore’s role is quite irritating at the start, but it slowly progresses into a better role. A sex-addict co-director working in the film industry, but his heart is in the right place as he aids Ranjann in winning his love. Hyper Aadi throws typical punches which fail to entertain. Viva Harsha and Nellore Sudarshan failed to entertain as well. The trio as selfish friends try cliched ways, but fail miserably. Ajay and Subbaraju have “brainless” characters who are easily influenced and fooled by the people around them.Talented artiste Makarand Deshpande gets utterly wasted with a poor cameo. Overall, poorly written characters leave the actors in a helpless state.

Technicalities

When a badly written story gets a poor narration, the result is Rules Ranjann. The film fails in all crafts. ‘Sammohanuda’ song by Shreya Ghoshal and ‘Enduku Ra Babu’ crooned by Rahul Sipligunj and Rohit are good songs, but their placement puts off the experience. Barring these songs, the film has no value addition.

Analysis

Right from the word go, Rules Ranjann indicates that it is a done-to-death script that has not been evolved well. Neither director Rathinam Krishna (Jyothi Krishna) nor hero Kiran Abbavaram hasn’t learned from their past mistakes it seems. They deliver a film that underscores in all aspects. The film is a patience tester. The characters behave in an irritating manner making viewers wonder what is happening at all. In a fast-paced city like Mumbai, a disciplined Telugu guy Ranjann (Kiran Abbavaram) is worried about his opposite flat resident Kamesh (Vennela Kishore) and complaints against his activities. What happens is Kamesh becomes Ranjann’s flat mate. This is insane. It is just a sample of how this script is penned in a careless manner. There are glaring mistakes all over the film. The office scenes are pathetic to the core. Ranjann’s own boss is scared of his punctuality. There are many such badly conceived scenes that are narrated in a very unconvincing manner.

The only and only silver lining in the entire film is Neha Shetty’s glam presence. She sizzles in the ‘Sammohanuda’ song. It is a minor relief in such a lackluster movie. Even There is a reunion sequence in the latter half one wonders how it is written. Both the ladies (from the village) are drunk and cross their limits. This shows how it is contradictory and not persuasive. The film is full of predictions. The pre-climax and climax are not impressive, but passable. The logic goes for a toss and the cinematic liberties are all over the place. Even the commercial elements are not used optimally. The writing and direction marred the overall film. Keep away from this Ranjan. It is a forgettable film which needs to be skipped. Hope Kiran and Krishna learn from this film’s result.

Verdict: Tests Patience

Rating: 1.5/5
