Keeda Cola Movie Review

Published by

Tharun Bhascker who is known for making hit and pathbreaking movies like Pelli Choopulu and Ee Nagaraniki Emandi has come up with this crime comedy this time, Keeda Cola. The man also acted in a crucial role in Keeda Cola. The trailer has caught the attention of the audience because of its content and also due to following from his previous films, Brahmanandam in a full-length role among other factors. The movie was released in theaters today. Here is the review from US premieres. Let us dive into the cola and see if it is keeda or just soda.

What Is It About?

Varadaraju (Brahmanandam) his grandson Vasthu (Chaitanya Rao), and his friend Lancham (Rag Mayur) find a cockroach in a cola bottle and decide to sue the company for huge compensation. On the other side, the jail-return Naidu (Tharun Bhascker) and his brother corporator-aspirant Jeevan (Jeevan) who actually planned that come after the bottle. How they deal with the CEO of Cola company (Ravindra Vijay) and what consequences they face in it is all about Keeda Cola.

Performances

Tharun Bhascker steals the show with his acting ease and dialogue. His acting is on par with his directional skills. Nagula Panchami actor Jeevan gets a full-length role and he does his job very well. Brahmanadam also appears in a full-length role but he is mostly passive and really not helpful for comedy or the actual story. Vishnu Oi, Chaitanya Rao, Rag Mayur and others did alright. Ravindra Vijay and Raghu Ram are usual.

Technicalities

The crisp narrative and background music of Keeda Cola are impressive. The actual plot is not very deep or it lacks a strong point which needs proper entertainment to save it. Keeda Cola works in parts with comedy and characterizations. Keeda Cola has impressive cinematography and it is technically a very good film.

Analysis

Crime comedies are one of the favorite genres of the audience and they mostly are interesting unless they have an extremely weak script or a stale comedy. We have seen many crime comedies like Brochevarevarura, Bhale Manchi Rou, and Sathigani Rendekaralu but only the engaging ones are only a few. This crime comedy Keedaa Cola from Tharun has the wacky comedy where it needs and brings out some good loud laughs but the script is too simple to make it a great watch.

The first half of Keeda Cola is mostly for establishing the characters and the plot and the comedy works here and there. Jeevan gets a meaty full-length role and his frustration fun works well. The second half gets a little better with more jokes all over. The track of Vasthu and Brahmanandam is not really great and the director could not use Brahmi to his full potential with the role he was given.

The script is so thin that most of the time the unconventional making keeps it going. There are a few scenes and characters that remind Guy Richie’s Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. The English-speaking comedy came out well every time. Tharun Bhascker dominates in his role with his screen presence and he is impressive. His Barbie comedy is not exciting but the conversation between Tharun and Vishnu Oi always brings fun. Interestingly there is no woman character in the whole movie.

Tharun Bhascker used many references from his movies like ‘Thagudam’ and others but only a few worked. The common character of Tharun Bhascker’s movies ‘Kaushik’ appears in Keeda Cola too, but could not match the previous two Kaushiks. Vivek Sagar’s background music and rap lyrics are saviors of Keeda Cola and the slow-motion scenes look good with it. The short run time is also an asset for Keeda Cola. Keeda Cola is mostly predictable and the climax is filled with rushed scenes and abrupt.

Overall, Tharun Bhascker’s Keeda Cola is a wacky crime comedy that works in parts and is a time-pass watch. If it needs to be compared to different genres of Tharun Bhascker’s previous films, Keeda Cola is the least best of all three.

Bottom Line: Not Served Chilled

Rating: 2.5/5
