Eagle Movie Review

Published by

Raviteja has been picking up action-genre films of late. The senior actor this time joined forces with cinematographer turned director Karthik Gattamaneni for the movie Eagle. The trailer looked stylish and the movie appears to be filled with action all over. With many popular actors like Navadeep, Anupama Parameswaran, and Vinay Rai in the lead cast, Eagle was released in theaters today. The makers paved the way for Sankrathi films to have a solo release now. Let us see if Eagle has got all that interesting stuff the trailer promised. Here is the review from the US Premieres.

What Is It About?

A Delhi-based journalist Nalini (Anupama Parameswaran) accidentally bumps into the story of Sahadeva Varma (Raviteja) a cotton business owner and gets intrigued by the details she knows. She digs deeper only to find out that Sahadeva Varma is also the Eagle, the World’s most-wanted assassin. Many good and evil forces are trying to catch Sahadeva Varma. What is his past and why is he doing it? The answer to these questions is Eagle.

Performances

Raviteja is known for putting best efforts for any film he makes. He did that for Eagle too, but the faded narrative and unnecessary additions made this Eagle beyond boring.

Talented actors like Avasarala Srinivas, Srinivasa Reddy, Vinay Rai, and Anupama Parameswaran are wasted. Navadeep seen in full length role, he did well to his part. Veteran actress Madhoobala will be confined to the monitor room and she did what needed.

Ajay Ghosh and Srinivasa Reddy’s comedy did not work a bit. Kavya Thapar looked beautiful but her role is the most boring character.

Technicalities

Eagle’s main plotline is simple, but the director tests the patience of the audience before revealing the actual plot. The uninteresting substories, the weak elevations, pale action episodes, and over-hyped dialogues, all work against Eagle. The songs are bad and other than few scenes background music disappoints. The screenplay goes into chaos. The production values and the cinematography are good.

Analysis

Eagle has a known plot of the hero’s happy past that was disturbed by his profession and the story is all about his determination to correct his mistake by finding the root cause and ending the evil forever. Though the plot looks simple and well-known, Eagle’s take is completely in different way. A wafer-thin line of the story is padded with too many complications, unnecessary subplots, and over-elevations.

The story does not get on track until the second half, while the first half is filled with sub-stories to highlight the protagonist’s heroism. There are RAW, terrorists, and naxals, also there are mixed-up concepts of weapons, Bauxite, and professional assassins only to leave the story more cluttered and messy.

Almost the first hour has just a few glimpses and a few dialogues from Raviteja, while the rest is all filled with elevations, which not worked well.

At some point, even the action episodes appear flat and pale. The run time is also an enemy of the audience here. Some parts in second really gone well, but by then the audience finds that the whole lot of stories told until then made no sense. And by the time the story appears to be concluded, there is another enemy from the past who turns up at the action site.

Overall, Eagle is one thin line of story that has been made umpteen times and tried to be narrated eccentrically but fails in execution. There were heavy terms like Margasiram, Vidhwamsam, and Viswaroopam, but none could be felt in any part of the movie. Above all, the director announced a second part for Eagle in the end!

Bottomline: Eagle Shot Down

Rating: 2.25/5
