Allari Naresh is back to the comedy genre with the film Aa Okkati Adakku. Malli Ankam makes his directorial debut with this film which has Faria Abdullah as the female lead. The promos have caught on quite well, and let’s see if the film lives up to all the hype or not.
Plot
Ganapathi(Allari Naresh) works in a sub registrar’s office. As he takes responsibility for his family, his wedding gets delayed. Things become so bad for him that no one is interested in marrying an aged bachelor. Upset with this, Ganapathi enrolls on a matrimonial website and comes across Siddhi(Faria Abdullah). He falls in love with her but she rejects him right away. This is also the time when news comes out that Sidhhi is a cheat who enrolls in matrimony websites and cheats everyone for money. Who is this Siddhi? Why is she cheating everyone? Did Ganapathi manage to marry her? That is the rest of the story.
Performances:
Allari Naresh is apt in the role of Ganapathi, the wanna-be family man. Allari Naresh impresses with his comedy timing, but the needed humor is not generated from his character. He looks a bit lost in the second half of the film. Faria Abdullah is neat in her role, and her chemistry with Allari Naresh is quite good. Jamie Lever makes an impressive debut with Aa Okkati Adakku. She has good comedy timing, and her expressions are also neat. If used well, she can go well in the Telugu film industry. Gokraju Ramana, Prudhvi, and other supporting cast are not at all utilized well in the narrative.
Technicalities:
The captain of the ship failed in many aspects. Malli’s writing is pathetic. The camerawork in the film is just okay and nothing great to rave about. Gopi Sundar has composed the music, and the only song is neat. But his BGM is loud and does not gel one bit with the narrative. The comedy punches are missing big time in the narrative, and this is because the dialogue and writing are weak.
Thumbs Up:
Allari Naresh
Thumbs Down:
Routine comedy
Poor writing
Music
Analysis
Aa Okkati Adakku directed by Allari Naresh’ father EVV, is a cult classic in Telugu cinema. The same title has been used again, and the icing on the cake is the presence of Allari Naresh in the film. So, naturally, the expectations of the film were high. Upon this, the makers promoted the film as an out-and-out comedy caper. But the harsh reality of Aa Okkati Adakku is that it is not a comedy caper but a serious film that deals with mishaps that take place through matrimony websites.
The way Allari Naresh is introduced and his scenes with Jamie Level looks good. Also, a scene featuring Vennela Kishore on the dining table is hilarious in the film. But apart from that, the film is very low on comedy. Upon this, most of the scenes are dragged for no reason which ruins the narrative big time.
The flashback looks very silly and does not impress at any point. There are so many scenes that do not fit into the narrative, making the film boring. Upon this, the post-interval scenes tend to become like a TV serial and go on and on.
The message related to fake marriages, brides, and NRI weddings through matrimony is also touched on in the film, but it gives a documentary-like feeling. The film’s promos showcased it as a comedy caper, but the film is a serious drama with a relatable subject. So, all those who go in hoping Allari Naresh mark comedy will be cheated, as Aa Okkati ends as a film that tries too hard to impress and falls flat on its face.
Bottom Line – Just Skip It!
Rating: 2/5
