Priyadarshi and Nabha Natesh teamed up for the mad-cap entertainer titled Darling. The movie marks Nabha’s return to films after a gap of three years. There were decent expectations around the movie, thanks to the entertaining trailer. The film has hit the screens today after having paid premiers last night in a few areas. Let’s check out how the movie turned out to be.

Story:

Raghava (Priyadarshi) works as a travel agent. His sole aim in life is to marry a girl and take her to Paris on honeymoon. His father (Muralidhar Goud) arranges a match with Doctor Nandini (Ananya Nagalla). However, Nandini elopes with her boyfriend just before the wedding, leading Raghava to attempt suicide. That’s when he meets happy-go-lucky girl Aanandhi (Nabha Natesh). Eventually, they get married and that’s when Raghava realises that his wife has multi-personality disorder. She turns out to be a troublemaker for him. How Raghava manages to overcome hurdles in his married life forms the main crux of the movie.

Writing and Direction:

Director Aswin Raam had a quirky idea in mind. He needed to weave his idea with interesting and hilarious comedy scenes. There should be well-written characters and comedy scenes to make audiences hooked to their seats and keep them engaged and entertained. Unfortunately, Aswin fails to create both of them. His writing was very weak and his characterizations were pale. After a point, audiences not only get bored but get irritated by watching the movie’s proceedings. There was no solid connection developed between the lead characters. Thus, we don’t root for them or their relationship. On the whole, Aswin failed to prove himself in both writing and direction.

Performances:

Priyadarshi is one of the few Telugu actors who can balance comedy timing very well. He does his part well but his writing is too weak to use his potential. Coming to Nabha Natesh, she got the most important role in the movie. This is one of the characters which demands various emotions from the actor. Nabha fails to live up to expectations and doesn’t deliver justice to her role completely. She fails to impress in the comedy scenes especially. Vishnu Oi and Muralidhar Goud impress in their respective roles. Brahmanandam was wasted in a limited role. Ananya Nagalla was decent in an extended cameo.

Technicalities:

The music by Vivek Sagar was pretty average. He does a decent job with the background score but the songs are completely forgettable. Cinematographer Naresh Ramadurai’s work is commendable and brings richness to visuals. Editor Pradeep E Raghav could’ve done a better job as the film feels very lengthy and many scenes can be chopped easily. The production values are very good.

Positives:

Few Comedy Scenes

Negatives:

Lengthy Runtime
Weak Direction
Weak Screenplay

Bottomline: Boring Darling

Rating: 2/5
