Drinker Sai Movie Review

Published by

Drinker Sai is a low-budget Telugu film that has been promoted on an extensive note. Kiran Tirumalasetti makes his debut as a director with this romantic drama. Let’s analyze the film here.

Plot

Sai (Dharma) is a spoiled kid who spends his days drinking and enjoying life. One day, a girl named Bhagi (Aishwarya Sharma) accidentally injures Sai, sparking the beginning of a new love story. Sai falls deeply in love with Bhagi, and though she reluctantly reciprocates, her feelings are not genuine for reasons known only to her. Where will this love story lead? Will Sai win Bhagi’s heart? And will Bhagi eventually accept a drunkard? This forms the crux of the story.

Performances

Dharma is new to the industry, but his performance feels mature. As Drinker Sai, he impresses and handles a challenging role well. For a young actor, Dharma delivers within his limitations. Aishwarya Sharma is decent in her role. Although she appears a bit rustic at the start, she excels in emotional scenes. Kirrak Seetha and Ritu Chowdary add little to the film and come across as dull. Bhadram’s comedy works in only a few scenes.

Technical Aspects

Sri Vasanth has composed the music, and while the songs are decent, they are placed awkwardly within the narrative. His background score (BGM) is a bonus, effectively elevating the proceedings. The cinematography is quite impressive, especially considering the budget, with good shot-making and visuals. The first half of the film could benefit from significant editing, and the climax also feels a bit stretched. The writing is ordinary, with nothing remarkable to boast about.

Thumbs Up:

Basic premise
Dharma’s performance

Thumbs Down:

Routine Story
Lack of strong conflict
Hero’s character arc

Analysis

Drinker Sai marks the directorial debut of Kiran Tirmalasetti in Telugu cinema. He chooses a romantic drama set against the backdrop of a drunkard and his perspective on the one he loves. Though this story has been tried and tested, Kiran impressively begins the film by establishing the hero’s character. However, there are too many filler scenes that bore the audience.

There is a significant gap between key scenes, and to enjoy them, viewers must sit through the slow narration and routine moments that fail to impress. The love story between the drunkard and the girl who does not love him is depicted well at the start. But things fall apart in the second half when the hero’s character loses focus.

There should have been more clarity about why the hero behaves the way he does. Additionally, there are issues with the pacing, as things take too long to reach the conflict point. The film is also filled with cheesy scenes that are unnecessary.

When attempting to deliver a message or show how something harmful affects everyone, the emotions need to be stronger, but that is lacking in Drinker Sai. What starts as a promising film ends up being a routine and boring affair, with only a few scenes that manage to work making this film a dull watch.

Bottom Line: No Kick

Rating: 2.25/5
