Kollywood actor Sivakarthikeyan has moved the Madras High Court after accusing producer Gnanavel Raja of not paying his leftover remuneration of a whopping Rs15 crore for the movie Mr Local. The actor claims that only Rs 11 crore was paid to him when he was signed for the project. The remaining Rs. 4 crores have been given, according to him.
The actor, who is also a known face in Telugu with films such as Varun Doctor and Kousalya Krishnamurthy, said in his complaint that he agreed with the producer on July 6, 2018, for accepting to play the lead role in Mr Local. As per the agreement, his remuneration was Rs 15 crore and was said to pay him in instalments with the last of Rs1 crore to be paid before the release of the movie.
Sivakarthikeyan played the lead role in the romantic comedy Mr Local, which was directed by M Rajesh. The actor further stated in the court that he was slapped with a notice by the Income Tax Department on February 1 as the TDS for Rs 11 cr is also not remitted by Studio Green to the government. The actor urged the court to ban the producer’s current films which are under production ( Rebel, Chiyaan 61 and Pathu Thala) until he pays his remaining salary.
The Judge, who heard the case, has adjourned the case for the next hearing on March 31. He also requested that Gnanavel be injuncted from transferring any rights with respect to the three movies either to film distributors for theatrical release or to OTT platforms. Sivakarthikeyan currently awaits the release of the upcoming Tamil science-fiction thriller, Ayalaan. He also has a Tamil-Telugu bilingual film with Jathi Ratnalu fame. KV Anudeep.
