A few days back Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn and Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep were engaged in a Twitter banter over Hindi as national language. In fact this thing – imposing Hindi language got everyone, be it politicians or a film star involved and a widespread discussion is going on all over the country.
In his first response Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan said he is not against Hindi but one should never suppress an individual’s mother tongue. Kamal commented so at the trailer launch of his upcoming movie ‘VIKRAM’ in Chennai. “Though I’m never against Hindi but if it is being deliberately imposed on me, then I’m ready to oppose it with a strong voice,” said Kamal.
Defending himself Kamal stated that he is a proud disciple of Sivaji Ganesan and lyricist Vaali and they have taught him to speak in Tamil with all pride. “It’s because of Sivaji and Vaali, I’m able to express my opinion without any reluctance. It is my responsibility to say that Tamil should flourish and be given as a valuable asset for future generations to come,” said Kamal.
Summing up his views on Hindi language debate, Kamal said India is a union of states and every language has its own rich history and it deserves to be respected.
In the past Kamal supported Jallikattu row when PETA and the government of India opposed the sport. Kamal is always up for the rights of Tamil land.
