One of the shadiest chapters in post-Independent India ever since the partition is this ghastly attack on a railway coach that took place in Godhra, Gujarat in the year 2002. The aftermath of this incident led to widespread riots in Gujarat and never this incident was discussed in films or anywhere. Now that most of the pending cases related to the incident are adjudged, here comes a film on the same.
In the lines of “The Kashmir Files”, an independent filmmaker named Shivaaksh has now come up with the film “Godhra: Accident or Conspiracy”. So far, we do know that the train carrying Karasevaks and Hindu pilgrims were attacked by a mob at Godhra and almost 58 people returning from Ayodhya were charred to death. The teaser of the film that was released other day touches the same point, but it explores it from the point of view that if this is an accident or a bigger conspiracy was there behind it. The filmmaker stated that they have done ample research to bring out the truth.
At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was the Chief Minister of Gujarat back then, was accused of instigating violence, this film is promising that their five years of research for the story has brought out chilling visuals, and that will be a shocker to everyone. In fact, in 2012, Modi was cleared of any wrongdoing by Supreme Court’s SIT. At the same time, a Muslim cleric and a retired CRPF officer from the same community were found to be the ones who triggered the clashes and instigated the mobs.
For now, the teaser brought out some of the moments from Godhra alive. We have to see what the film is going to be like.
