As the countdown for the much-anticipated assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh is underway, every political development is assuming great significance with all three parties going all out in their efforts to intensify the poll battle. Particularly, the TDP – JSP combine is adopting a no-holds-barred approach to dethrone the Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government this term.
For quite some time now, there has been a lot of hue and cry by the leaders of both TDP and Janasena over alleged discrepancies in the electoral rolls of Andhra Pradesh. They have already complained to the state election commission regarding the large-scale irregularities in the voters list and requested to take stern action against those who are committing voter frauds.
Now, the party presidents of TDP and Janasena, Chandra Babu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan, have decided to take the fight against the electoral irregularities to the Election Commission of India.
As per the latest reports, Naidu and Pawan will meet the high-level delegation of ECI which is going to visit Andhra Pradesh on January 9th. The team of ECI will be coming to review the state’s preparedness for the upcoming elections. So, both the leaders have sought an appointment with the EC officers to submit a written complaint on the discrepancies in voter lists.
In November this year, TDP polit bureau member K. Atchannaidu met the state Chief Electoral Officer and complained about the pending 11 lakh applications and also exhorted the commission to look into the irregularities and alleged that they are being done at the behest of the ruling dispensation in Andhra Pradesh.
Both Chandra Babu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan know about the gravity of this issue which is likely to play a significant role in the outcome of the upcoming elections. Hence, they cancelled their ongoing election tours to meet the delegation of EC and submit their findings.
Chandra Babu was supposed to address a public meeting in Nellore next week. Pawan Kalyan also planned to tour West Godavari after completing his current schedule in Kakinada. However, both leaders have now decided to reschedule these tours as they feel it a top priority to meet the delegation of EC.
Meanwhile, there is a strong buzz in media circles that the EC is planning to hold assembly elections in AP on March 6th in the first phase.
