The previous YSR Congress government had allegedly left deficits in fees reimbursement program to the tune of ₹1388 crore. This essentially meant that students were very anxious about the clearance of their tuition fee and concerns were raised about their future.
However, IT and education minister, Nara Lokesh had promised the students that he would take care of the issue and clear the deficit so that the educational institutions do not pressure them over pending dues.
Lokesh had already orchestrated ₹788 crore towards fee reimbursement program. Additionally, ₹600 crores were released by the government of Andhra Pradesh, thanks to the persistent efforts of Nara Lokesh on March 21.
The Government reaffirmed its commitment to the timely disbursement of tuition fees to educational institutions. As part of this commitment, Rs. 788 Crores has already been released towards fee reimbursement for the current academic year 2024-25. In continuation of these efforts, an additional Rs. 600 Crores has been released for fee reimbursement for the academic year 2024-25.
It is further communicated that Rs. 400 Crores will be released shortly. The Government has also committed to clearing the outstanding dues from the previous administration in a phased manner. Educational institutions are hereby instructed not to pressure students for fee payments or employ any coercive tactics, as the Government has already initiated action to address pending reimbursements.
It is further clarified that any educational institution that is found guilty of pressurising students for tuition fees and withholding hall tickets will have to face the legal consequences.
