We do know that Amazon Prime Video has surprised everyone by announcing two dozen projects other day, including some series, some sequels and some movies. However, looking at the promos of those series makes Telugu folks realise a thing about the lineup. Tollywood is badly missing in this interesting lineup. Isn’t it?
The newly announced series includes Shahid Kapoor’s Farzi, Naga Chaitanya’s Dootha, Sonakshi Sinha’s Dahaad, Tamanna’s Jee Karda and many others. Only Chay’s Dootha and Modern Love Hyderabad edition happen to be the Telugu series in this list, however, these two series boast a lot of Tamil actors inside.
While Dootha has Chay in the lead, the rest of the major cast are Tamil actors only. Even in Modern Love Hyd edition, non-Telugu actors like Nitya Menon and Chennai raised Aadi, along with Hyderabad’s Telugu speaking Ritu Varma took the attention. None of them are native Telugu actors we must say. One wonders if there are no Telugu actors at all to get cast in these Telugu series that are likely to be streamed on Prime Video soon.
And then, there are no original Telugu films or Telugu series coming while Tamil and Malayalam makers have stunned everyone with their presence. Aishwarya Rajesh’s Suzhal, Nazar’s Vadandi, Naveen Chandra’s Ammu, Arya’s The Village, Madhoo and Lakshmi’s Sweet Kaaram Koffee are a few to name. One wonders why Telugu originals aren’t there in this. Modern Love Hyd edition is actually an adaptation of Modern Love Newyork version.
At a time when Telugu directors like Sukumar and Rajamouli are bringing international fame to commercial Telugu cinema, it looks like the Telugu mark is missing in the OTT space.
