After OTT platforms got huge popularity, noted reality shows Bigg Boss came up with its digital format. Bigg Boss OTT version was first launched in Hindi last year. It was a big hit over there. After its success, the makers introduced this format in Tamil and Telugu this year.
The maiden OTT version of Bigg Boss Telugu, titled Bigg Boss OTT, was launched in February this year. This show ran for 84 days and was concluded last night. Bindu Madhavi became the title winner. Akhil and Shiva remained in the second and third positions.
Bigg Boss Telugu is one of the most popular shows in the television arena. But it somehow failed to replicate the same success with its OTT version.
According to the reports, Bigg Boss Non-Stop wasn’t a big success as expected. The 24*7 format didn’t appeal to many Telugu audiences. They opted to watch the one-hour episodes rather than tuning into the live stream, opined experts.
The one day delay in live streaming also disappointed viewers a bit. Moreover, family audiences are still high in number for the television channels than for the OTT platforms. So, the OTT version failed to replicate the success of the television versions.
Meanwhile, we can know the TRP ratings on television on an open platform. But the viewership of the OTT version can only be disclosed by Disney+ Hotstar. So, we cannot expect transparency in it. After all these factors, we have to see if the makers will continue this OTT format every year. Meanwhile, Bigg Boss season 6 will be telecasted on television later this year.
