It was during the Covid lockdowns, that people outside Kerala started watching well-made Malayalam films on various digital platforms and since then, there’s been a huge demand for Malayalam mystery thriller and investigative thriller films from people across the country. The dubbed versions of these films command a huge viewership on digital platforms. 

Kishkindha Kaandam is one such well-made mystery thriller film with a gripping screenplay and great performances. Set in a village which is located near a dense forest reserve known for wild monkeys, the film runs around three principle characters, Ajay, a forest officer, Ajay’s wife, Aparna and his father, Appu Pillai, a retired military officer with memory loss issues. The story of the film revolves around Appu Pillai’s missing gun and Ajay’s missing son. 

Like most films, Kishkindha Kaandam too suffers from slow-pace issues at times but the director, Dinjith Ayyathan tight screenplay filled with mystery, thrills, twists and turns keeps the viewers hooked throughout the film. Made on a budget of ₹7 scores, the film collected more than ₹75 Crores in theatres worldwide and became Asif Ali’s highest grosser.
