The story is set against the backdrop of two key elements (i.e. gold and dowry) that are often essential for marriages to take place in India without complications. The film serves as a neutral social commentary, refraining from supporting either those who seek dowry or those who struggle to provide it.
It is a brilliantly written and directed film with a very effective screenplay where every character changes their colour according to the circumstances. As the film unfolds, we as audiences keep changing our opinion about almost every character in the film. The transformation of every character will have a purpose and is driven by circumstances.
A very well-written and directed film with top-notch performances from almost all the actors, good music and very good cinematography, sums up ‘Ponman’. If you can excuse the slow pace that is usually associated with most Malayalam films, Ponman is a film that you can happily watch at home with your family and friends.
