In a shocking and heart wrenching development, two Indian-origin people Malathi Kanche, and Dhanush Reddy lost their lives in a flash flood in New Jersey, USA.
Malathi, 46, a software engineer and her 15-year-old daughter were holding on to a tree as they were stuck in floodwaters on Route 22 of Bridgwater, New Jersey. Incidentally, the tree fell off and Malathi was swept away by the floodwaters. She was confirmed dead on Friday.
Dhanush Reddy, 31, was also stuck in the flood in South Plainfield, New Jersey. He fell near a 36-inch sewer pipe and was pulled into the same.
Dhanush’s mortal remains were then found miles away from the sewer pipe.
These flash floods were triggered by the devastating Hurricane Ida, which made landfall in the US state of Louisiana. This is the second most destructive hurricane to hit the state after Hurricane Katrina(2005).
Hurricane Ida has caused at least $50 billion in damages, as per official estimates.
