US: The SAT Is Now Completely Digital

The US College Board officially launched its new digital SAT on Monday. There are a few other changes to the exam.

The High schoolers began taking the test exclusively on laptops and tablets via a new app called BlueBook. The exam takers can also answer essay questions through this app.

Also, the digital exam is an hour shorter than the traditional SAT. Students do not have the option to take the test on paper unless they have an accessibility exemption.

The College Board’s vice president Priscilla Rodriguez said the feedback from the first round of test takers was ‘overwhelmingly positive’.

The digital SAT has been available as a pilot for international applicants to US institutions since the start of 2023 while a digital PSAT became available to high schoolers last fall.

SAT stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test. Many colleges and universities in the United States require students to submit scores from the SAT test as part of the application process.
