AP girl’s death : US cop finally fired!

More than 18 months after the controversial reaction over the death of a Telugu girl in a brutal road accident that happened in January last year, a US cop named Auderer was fired from his job by the Seattle police department. After a thirty day suspension, he was finally terminated from the job for his unusual and insensitive remarks.

Going into the details, a young girl Jaahnavi Kandula, who was pursuing her masters in USA, died in January 2023 after she was struck by a police vehicle in Seattle while crossing a street. The police car was moving at 119 kmph speed as a response to a drug overdose call. Jaahnavi was seriously injured as she was thrown some 100 feet due to the speeding vehicle. Her death distressed the entire NRI fraternity and also the Telugu people.

What was more shocking to everyone was the insensitive remarks made by the police officer named Auderer while reacting about the incident. Though he was not involved in the collision, Auderer was captured in a body cam video laughing as remarked “Uh, I think she went up on the hood, hit the windshield, and then when he hit the brakes, flew off the car…But she is dead.” He continued, “She was 26 anyway. She had limited value.” After making these comments, Auderer laughed hard for four seconds.

After the video went viral, the death case has been covered extensively in the public and has garnered international media and diplomatic attention.
