Telangana Congress is the only party that hasn’t confirmed its candidate for the Huzurabad by-election among the three major parties. Padi Kaushik Reddy was supposed to be their candidate but with an audio clipping of his getting leaked, he was suspended from the party. So the anticipation for the candidate continues.
Amidst this, one name is making rounds in the T-Congress circles and it is of Konda Surekha. Snubbed by KCR in 2018, Surekha returned to Congress but she is not active these days. Recently she did give an interview for a news channel and in this she opened up that she is ready to get back to active politics.
Accordingly the T-PCC is said to be considering Surekha’s name. T-Congress needs a strong candidate and is of the opinion that Surekha can fill the slot. In the past Surekha had contested for Hanmakonda Parliament seat and in her constituency Parkala, she still has a decent following.
Geographically Parkala is beside Huzurabad and Surekha can extend her base till the by-poll region. Moreover Surekha hails from Padmashali community while her husband is Munnuru Kapu and the presence of voters of these communities are decent in numbers in Huzurabad.
On Saturday T-PCC called for a working committee meeting and a decision on the Huzurabad by-poll candidate is likely to be taken. Surekha is showing interest to contest the by-poll and while doing so, the T-PCC is also considering the names of Karimnagar Congress chief Kavvampalli Satyanarayana, Kishan Congress leader Krishna Reddy and an NRI.
If Surekha makes the final cut then it would be a fierce battle in Huzurabad for sure.
