Probably most of us know KTR as the son of KCR which is a common phenomenon in politics. In the 2009 general elections, KTR marked his political debut and successfully contested from Siricilla Assembly constituency. But before that, where was KTR and what KCR wanted his son to become? The Telangana IT minister opened up about how he made way into politics.
At the orientation session for the founding batch students of Master’s in Public Policy (MPP) program, KTR revealed what had led him to join Telangana agitation. “Many of us here don’t know about me apart from being the IT minister. My father wanted me to become an IAS officer and accordingly he sent me to JNU in New Delhi for two months,” said KTR.
The writings on JNU walls have struck KTR and that inspired him to take public life. “In a democracy when everything is decided by politics, you better decide your future politics,” was written on the wall of JNU. But even before joining the prestigious university KTR left for the USA.
“In 2006 when the TRS party walked out of the UPA coalition, I quit my job in the US and returned to India. In fact KCR had no clue that I resigned my job and without his knowledge, I joined politics. But I knew for the fact that if I asked something, he wouldn’t say NO. I wanted to play my role and be supportive. That’s how the journey started,” added KTR.
Many know that KTR was working in the USA but never had a clue that KCR wanted him to become an IAS officer which is a top and respected profession in the country. That’s an interesting story!
