We always have a belittling attitude towards government run schools. Lack of basic facilities and unavailability of proper teaching staff are some of the prime reasons for this. Over the years, many governments have promised to revamp the schools and provide quality education to the poor and backward classes.
But their words marginally turned into reality. AP CM YS Jagan made a big promise to parents who send their kids to government schools. Apart from direct cash transfer to parents of students, Jagan also vowed to facelift the image of all the government schools across the state.
A ten point formula was prepared to overhaul the schools and over the last two years, the education department has put in a lot of effort for Jagan’s vision. The issues of quality furniture in classrooms, toilets, safe drinking water, hygienic kitchen that provides nutritious food, compound wall, renovation, around the clock electricity with better equipment and a few more were addressed.
Seems like the efforts have paid off and the enrolment of students in government schools has gone up remarkably. As a result, now the schools are placing ‘NO VACANCY’ boards before the entrance. But the demand for a seat is still high and the parents are worried about their kids who missed out to get placed. The schools are requesting parents to cooperate for this inconvenience.
What a turn around and hope the AP government maintains these standards across all the schools. Simultaneously the results should do the talking.
