Telangana CM KCR led TRS government is set to shock the people of the state as electricity and RTC charges are likely to be hiked. Yesterday CM KCR held a review meeting with Transco CMD Prabhakar Rao and TSRTC MD Sajjannar and discussed pending and outstanding issues.
Primarily CM KCR discussed RTC which is in deep losses due to the Covid-19. Since the lockdown in March 2020, TSRTC has incurred losses of Rs 550 crore. The hike in diesel prices is also one of the reasons. Additionally the RTC is spending Rs 50 crore in repair works, spare parts of buses. Shockingly RTC is reporting Rs 90 crore losses from the twin cities. Due to these losses, the RTC is unable to pay the salaries for drivers, conductors and staff on time.
The RTC unions have been pressuring the state government to hike the ticket prices and regarding the same, CM KCR has called on TSRTC MD Sajjannar and discussed ways to reduce the losses. According to the sources, the ticket charges are likely to go up by 10 to 20 percent.
On the electricity charges, the Telangana government hadn’t changed them in the last six years. Transco CMD explained to CM KCR that Covid-19 has brought losses and it is inevitable to hike the prices.
However, CM KCR informed the officials that he would call for a cabinet meeting regarding issues of the electricity department and RTC losses. Accordingly a call would be taken.
For CM KCR, there is no other option to go for the hike and it would certainly upset the people. If this happens before the Huzurabad by-election, the ruling TRS party would be on the back foot.
