Jagan Cabinet Has No Time For Debate On Drugs!

Published by

The unrest between the ruling YCP and TDP in Andhra Pradesh was caused by the drug menace. The main opposition accused the ruling party of turning a blind eye against drugs especially on the transportation of marijuana.

Recently the AP police had seized huge chunks of marijuana in East Godavari and Anantapur districts. The other day a gang was arrested by the police transporting marijuana in wedding invitation cards and despite getting caught, smugglers are finding new ways to move weed from one place to another.

Police of other states have identified the roots of this illegal marijuana transport and added that AP is the epicentre. With such comments from the police officials of other states, the AP government has to act and all eyes were on the AP cabinet meeting held this morning.

Shockingly the agenda of the AP cabinet meeting had no mention of drug racket or marijuana transport. AP CM YS Jagan chaired the cabinet and they discussed the online ticketing portal and ticket pricing related to the film industry. Also the cabinet had a word on the attack on temples. The cabinet made a resolution to make stringent measures for security across all temples in the state and this will be done by the Vigilance and Security department.

Overall the AP cabinet had debated about 20 to 25 pointers but it had no time for a debate on drugs, alleges opposition. By ignoring such a serious issue, there is a wide range of criticism on the Jagan government. But is the AP government of the opinion that it has already reacted to the drug menace and their action is in progress? Or did the YCP sarkar deliberately avoided the issue, being reluctant to give an advantage to the oppositions, if the drugs row was discussed?

Like AP, Maharashtra is hit by these drug scandals and so CM Uddhav Thackeray has called for a special cabinet meeting this evening and hold consultations elaborately to eradicate drugs from the state. Last week Telangana CM KCR too held a similar meeting with officials and directed them to take serious steps to stop drugs and illegal substance transport.

But the Jagan government is maintaining a status quo on drugs row and it’s not a good sign!
