Navy Names Ship As “AP’s Executive Capital”?, Courts Controversy

Published by

The Defence Ministry’s decision to name the lead ship of Project 15B stealth guided-missile destroyer as Visakhapatnam after the ‘Executive Capital’ of AP has courted controversy.

Visakhapatnam as ‘Executive Capital’ is still subjudice and the matter of ‘3 Capitals’ is not cleared by the legal. However, the Defence Ministry’s Press Information Bureau (PIB)’s statement that the lead ship at Mumbai named it Visakhapatnam after AP’s Executive Capital.

Several media reports also said that the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) Flag officer commanding-in-chief, Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, personally informed CM YS Jagan that the lead ship was named after Executive Capital.

All these have garnered criticism from various quarters. Mr Bahadur Singh has recently met AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy to invite him for the Navy Day on 4th December which is celebrated annually to mark India’s victory in 1971 by daring missile attack on Karachi by Indian Naval ships.

More deets on the issue are still awaited. The Defence Ministry is yet to respond to the controversy.
