Three days after the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a notification for elections to 11 MLC seats from eight Local Authorities’ Constituencies (LACs) in Andhra Pradesh, the ruling YCP has announced its candidates. Three more seats are vacant under the MLAs’ quota.
The YCP is set to win all the 14 MLC seats as it has clear majority in the Legislative Assembly and in local bodies. Chief Advisor to AP CM YS Jagan, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy has announced the names of the candidates.
Ragu Raju – Vizianagaram
Varudhu Kalyani and Vamshi Krishna Yadav – Vishakapatnam
Anantha Babu – East Godavari
Talasila Raghuram and Mondithoka Arun Kumar – Krishna
Ummareddy Venkateswarulu and Murugudu Hanumantha Rao – Guntur
Thumati Madhava Rao – Prakasam
Barath Krishna – Chittoor
Y Siva Rami Reddy – Anantapur
Earlier, YSRCP has announced Palavalasa Vikrant of Srikakulam, Ishaq Basha of Kurnool and DC Govindar Reddy of YSR district as nominees under MLA quota. With all the 14 MLC seats, the YCP’s strength in Legislative Council will climb to 32 in the 58-member Council and it will be crucial for the ruling party to pass key resolutions.
But the candidates list has surprised the political observers as Jagan followed ‘Samajika Nyayam’ (social justice to all communities) probably for the first time. What’s surprising is that only one from Reddy community received the MLC ticket. A good move by Jagan even though it is a bit late.
