YSRCP rebel MP Raghu Ramakrishna Raju leaves no stone unturned to corner the AP government when he gets an opportunity. In the on-going winter Parliament sessions, RRR had pitched up his attack despite threats from YCP MPs.
But on Thursday, RRR shamed the YCP government by raking up the liquor business being done by the state government. He appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to direct the state government to adapt to digital transactions to prevent corruption.
“AP is minting nearly Rs 40,000 crore from liquor sales but the transactions are taking place through liquid cash. There are high chances of corruption taking place in this liquor business. Since the government of India is promoting Digital India extensively, I request the Centre to push the state government for digital transactions,” said RRR.
The figures quoted by RRR are really astonishing as the state government is making revenue between Rs 20,000 to 30,000 crore through liquor sales as per the state’s excise department. A difference of Rs 10,000 Crs is a serious matter to look into.
But the state government is largely depending upon the liquor sales revenue because of less revenue sources. For the year 2021-22, the state government had set a target revenue of Rs 30,535 crore from liquor sales.
