Days after clearance from the High Court, Telangana state government has initiated the demolition works of the old secretariat at the Tankbund, Basheer Bagh. The demolition works of the historical secretariat began at midnight.
Meanwhile, the traffic in the route has been diverted. Heavy police force has been deployed at the site of the old secretariat. Under police protection, the demolition works are going on. The C Block of Secretariat has been first demolished with the help of huge cranes.
Ever since KCR became the first CM of Telangana state, he has been avoiding using the Chief Minister chambers at the Secretariat and continued to work from Pragati Bhavan – CM’s official residence-cum-office at Begumpet.
Reportedly, CM KCR was not happy with the “bad vaastu” and “unscientific layout” of existing buildings of the Old Secretariat. Though CM KCR had laid the foundation of the new Secretariat and Assembly building at Erramanzil in June 2019, the plan was later scrapped as it was stuck due to court cases.
With this, the new Secretariat complex is now planned to be constructed at the existing location at Tank Bund with an estimated cost of Rs 400 crore. The new Secretariat will be vaastu-compliant with fire safety and constructed as per the NBC and IGBC norms. The new design of the Secretariat has been released. This new design has been sent to CM KCR for his approval.
