YCP MP Nandigam Suresh and his followers created a ruckus at Krishnalanka police station in Vijayawada last night. Tension prevailed at the police station when the MP and his men reached the station and entered into an argument with the cops. On information that the Krishnalanka police had taken three youths, including the MP’s nephew, into custody, they stormed the police station.
Suresh’s nephew and two of his friends had gone to watch a movie in Swarna Multiplex and were returning home on a bike. Finding the roads empty, they increased the speed of the vehicle and at Gangotri hotel, the patrolling police took them into custody for rash driving.
Enraged over being taken into custody, the youths entered into an altercation with the Krishnalanka police. Irked over the arrogant behavior of the youth, an SI reportedly attacked them and shifted them to the police station. One of the youths filmed the entire episode and sent the same to the MP. Learning about the attack by the police, the MP reached the police station.
His followers had an argument with the police personnel and tried to even manhandle the SI involved in the episode. Now, the police personnel had a chance to film the attack and a constable, Srinivas, videographed it. Seeing the constable shooting a video, the MP’s followers snatched away the phone from the cop and damaged the furniture in the police station.
When the MP and his men were leaving the police station, the constable asked them to return his cell phone and he was attacked by the MP’s followers again. Not stopping at this, reportedly they even tried to damage the furniture at the station. It is learnt that the police personnel in the station remained mute spectators both while attacking the constable and the furniture in the police station.
However, it is learnt that the police authorities did not make any statement so far even when the MP and his sympathisers attacked both the police personnel and the station. According to sources, the police personnel are trying to keep the issue under wraps even when the media personnel and general public are already aware of it.
Left party leaders are worried that if the condition of the police personnel is so bad, the condition of the general public would be much worse if somebody attacks them. They demanded a complete inquiry into the whole issue and also demanded that action should be taken against those responsible for damaging the furniture in the police station.
