#UkraineWar: Mixed Reaction To Modi’s Cartoon

Narendra Modi

A cartoon on social media depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi acting as a bridge and helping Indian students from war-ravaged Ukraine even while other countries including neighbouring Pakistan, China and Big brother USA have been shying away from extending their assistance evoked mixed reactions from the Twitterati.

The cartoon shared by Union minister Piyush Goyal hailed Modi as India’s ‘bridge of hope’ to which some netizens agreed but questioned why should the act be glorified. Some others felt that there was a need to highlight the government’s work as a few fools ask the government on every little issue and try to project the authorities in bad light.

One netizen @RaviGudadhe3 showered praises on Modi and termed him as a man of power who can stop war for six hours. it is only such people who are needed in power, he felt and posted that he would vote for Modi and the BJP till eternity. Replying to this tweet, a few netizens posted hilarious emojis.

Meanwhile, a few others felt that the Operation Ganga, the name given to the rescuing efforts of the Indian government, was just a PR stunt in view of the elections underway in Uttar Pradesh.

Some even pointed out that India did not actually rescue students directly from the point of trouble in which they were but in fact, asked them to move to safer zones bordering Ukraine and picked them up from there. How can the government claim credit for it, they wondered.

It is the duty of the government to rescue the stranded students but not any favour and why boast of it, asked some people on social media.

Another user @Muntazir89 pointed out that former PM Manmohan Singh’s government too evacuated 16,000 during civil war in Libya but without making any noise while under Modi’s rule union ministers are visiting the airport and clicking selfies with the rescued students to use them in UP poll campaign.

Some others pointed out that USA students reached home on the first day of the war itself while India is doing it late after two students had died.
