T-govt To Fund Medicine Students Who Returned From Ukraine

Published by

Union External Affairs minister Jai Shankar announced in the Parliament that 22,000 Indian students pursuing medicine in Ukraine have been brought back. But due to the war, their medicine study has received an abrupt break and there is no clue when things will return to normalcy in Ukraine. Also it is unclear whether the colleges and universities re-induct the pursuing students.

Amidst this, Telangana CM KCR has announced a much needed relief for the students. In the Assembly KCR said that the state government will fund the students from the state who returned from Ukraine.

“From Telangana 740 odd students went to Ukraine because medicine study is very expensive in India. It costs Rs 1 crore in the country while in Ukraine, students can complete medicine with Rs 25 Lakh. But the situation is critical in Ukraine and nobody has a clue when the war will end. Even if the war ends, will Ukraine invite students immediately? It’s tough to find answers for these questions. So our government has decided to fund all the students from Telangana who have gone to Ukraine. Health minister and secretary will be writing to the government of India regarding the same and the state government will incur the entire expenditure,” stated KCR.

A week back the National Medical Commission (NMC) announced that foreign medical graduates with incomplete internships can finish the same in India but it did not mention anything about the students studying medicine in Ukraine.

Telangana might be the first state government to come to the aid of medical students from the state and if it manages to get approvals from the government of India, other states can replicate and support students who are in serious distress.
