Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has announced that from this academic year, students in all government junior and degree colleges in the state would be served midday meals.
Rao said that students were leaving the colleges by afternoon which was increasing the dropout rate in government colleges. To reduce the dropout rate and at the same time, provide nutritious food to the students, the government has decided to serve midday meals to the college students.
During discussion on the development of botanical gardens at Jadcharla Degree College, the CM came to know that local MLA and former minister C. Lakshma Reddy and the government college lecturer Raghuram were bearing the expenses and providing lunch to the college students and appreciated them.
He said that the TRS government had understood the importance of serving midday meals to the college students. Following lecturer Raghuram’s appeal, the CM sanctioned a new building to the Jadcharla Government Junior College.
KCR directed the officials to develop horticulture gardens in all government colleges taking inspiration from the initiative taken up in Jadcharla college. He also felicitated assistant professor Sadasivaiah at his camp office for developing a garden in Jadcharla Degree College and also setting up botanical gardens on the premises. KCR sanctioned Rs 50 lakh necessary for the botanical gardens.
Speaking on the occasion, KCR said that such initiatives should be taken up in all the colleges in the state. He directed the officials to hold a meeting with the botany lecturers in all government colleges and prepare an action plan to develop gardens in all the colleges.
