Parliament and Assembly are considered as temples of our democratic nation. But our politicians have shamed both the institutions on many occasions and here is a fresh episode. This happened in the West Bengal Assembly and MLAs of BJP and TMC were involved in an ugly fight.
As soon as the Assembly sessions commenced, BJP MLA demanded a statement from CM Mamata Banerjee over the violence that took place in Birbhum district’s Rampurhat killing eight members of a family, including five women and two children and burnt to death.
The BJP MLAs stormed at the Speaker’s podium for their demand and this did not go down well with the ruling party. TMC MLAs tried to resist BJP MLAs attempt and then a scuffle broke out. Trinamool MLA Asit Majumdar suffered a nose injury in the fight and was rushed to the hospital.
Following this fight, the Assembly Speaker suspended five BJP MLAs. But the BJP denied provoking this fight while the party’s leader Amit Malviya shared a video of the scuffle on his Twitter handle. He alleged that the government chief whip Manoj Tigga manhandled the BJP MLAs.
In Bengal, BJP and TMC are at loggerheads. From the Assembly polls to the current situation, the law & order took a serious beating. But this episode in the Legislative Assembly totally disrespects our Constitution.
