High Alert In Borders: AP Grains Not Allowed To Telangana

Published by

With the Telangana government announcing to procure the grains of the Yasangi season, the borders of Andhra and Telangana went on high alert. The state government deployed police and revenue officials at the borders to check heavy vehicles entering Telangana.

At Kodad, Nagarjunasagar and Khammam, police and revenue officials set up check-posts and are thoroughly checking trucks and tractors that are carrying heavy loads. At Ramapuram crossroads of Kodad, the police stopped two trucks and two tractors with grain loads. After enquiring the details of the truck and load, the police sent it back. But farmers are deeply upset that they do not have any prior information regarding the transport of grains. The police pacified the disappointed farmers but did not allow them to enter Telangana.

The Telangana government announced that it would buy the grains of the Yasangi season at the standard price of Rs 1960. Learning about this, traders of Nellore and Prakasham district have reportedly bought grains for low price and are transporting it to Telangana. But the police and revenue officials were alerted and at prime junctions, the entry is being restricted.

Yet at Sathupalli constituency (Khammam), Madira, Bonakal, Errupalem and a few more border regions, there are no police pickets in place. This is not the first instance that AP farmers reached Telangana to sell their crop. Previously Telangana CM KCR announced that every grain would be purchased but with GoI reluctant to buy, the state government decided to purchase the grains and relieve farmers.
