Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is scheduled to visit Ongole on Friday but the arrangements for his tour have already kicked up a storm in the state. The high-handedness of the police in securing a vehicle for the CM’s convoy turned into a controversial issue so much so that the CM himself ordered for departmental action against those involved in the incident.
Vemala Srinivas, a native of Vinukonda in Palnadu district, along with his family started off in an Innova vehicle to Tirumala to have darshan of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala. The family, including two men, two women and two children, took a halt in Ongole to have food last night. Parking the vehicle aside, the family went into a hotel and were having their grub, when a constable approached them and demanded that he needed a car, along with the driver, for CM’s convoy.
Srinivas told the constable that they were heading to Tirumala and that they do not belong to Ongole but Vinukonda. He even told the constable that they will have to face trouble in the mid of the night if the car was taken away. However, the constable said that they have orders from their higher officials and that they can do nothing except say ‘sorry’ and whisked off the vehicle, along with the driver. Srinivas was left helpless along with his family members.
He complained that it was not fair to take away the vehicles of pilgrims for CM’s convoy. Instead, they could have taken the vehicle of some local people.
When asked about the incident by the media, CI Subhashini said that she has no information about the vehicle. However, she said that she would try to get the details by sending her team. She also clarified that vehicles of people travelling from place to other would not be secured for such purposes.
Gaining knowledge about the episode, the CM directed the CMO officials to initiate action against those involved in it. He said that he would not tolerate officials or employees causing inconvenience to the public.
