Amravati MP and former Telugu actress Navneet Kaur Rana and her husband MLA Ravi Rana were arrested on Saturday night by Mumbai police. Navneet Rana and Ravi Rana were produced before Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Sunday. While the police had asked the court for the police custody of the couple for 7 days, the magistrate court dismissed the plea for police remand. The court issued 14 days judicial remand for Navneet Ran and Ravi Rana. The bail plea for the couple will be next heard on April 29.
Going into details, earlier this month, Navneet Rana and Ravi Rana had demanded that CM Thackeray to recite the Hanuman Chalisa at his residence on Hanuman Jayanti, and announced that if the chief minister did not do so, the couple would go to CM Thackeray’s residence (Matoshree) and recite it. This led to a furore.
Cases were filed against Navneet Rana and Ravi Rana under IPC Section 153(A), Section 135. Another FIR was also filed under IPC 353. The cases were booked against Rana couple for spreading hatred and enmity. According to an official from Khar police station, the couple was shifted to Santacruz police lock-up in the night.
“We will stay inside as a mark of protest against the false case and wrongful arrest,” the couple said after lodging a counter-complaint against Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.
